Questions about maintenance schedules

How often does my car really need an oil change?

Most modern engines running full synthetic go 7,500 miles or 12 months on the normal schedule. European turbocharged engines often list 10,000 miles, though we recommend 7,500. If you mostly drive short trips around Virginia Beach, treat 5,000 miles as your limit.

What counts as severe service?

Short trips under five miles, heavy stop-and-go traffic, towing or hauling, long idling, extreme heat, and regular exposure to salt air or beach sand. A lot of local driving qualifies, which is why the severe schedule is often the realistic one here.

Are these the exact factory intervals for my vehicle?

They are the typical published intervals for your brand family and vehicle type, meant for planning. Your owner's manual or in-car maintenance minder is the final word, and we will confirm what is actually due when you bring the vehicle in.

What happens if I skip a maintenance interval?

Most skipped services do not fail immediately, they shorten the life of something expensive. Old transmission fluid wears clutch packs, old coolant eats water pumps and radiators, and old brake fluid corrodes ABS components.

Do you keep a maintenance record for my vehicle?

Yes. We keep service history on file so you always know what was done and when, which also helps if you need to show documented maintenance for a warranty claim.

Is the Virginia state inspection part of maintenance?

It is separate but required every 12 months in Virginia. We are a certified inspection station and can handle it during the same visit as your scheduled maintenance.
